Hengeyokai are shapeshifting animals with the power to appear as elves. They are completely unlike lycanthropes, and cannot spread their shapeshifting ability in a bite or scratch like lycanthropes. Hengeyokai are indigenous to Tamekiriku, and rarely if ever found elsewhere.

Hengeyokai have three forms: one of a beast, one of an elf, and one of a hybrid between the two. The elven form usually has some small clue or mannerism that will reveal the hengeyokai's true nature to the observant.
