Saffron Dolphin is Adamant Fern's second disciple, formerly a mortal with awakened Essence and now an Air-Aspect Dragon-Blood. A young woman of medium height, she wears her shining dark-blue hair in a long heavy braid and her simple sailor's jacket with confident competence. She has a talent for thaumaturgy and aspirations to sorcery. From the beginning she displayed a voracious appetite for demonic lore, as well as considerable aptitude in demonology. Her attitude towards many First Circle demons mirrors Fern's own; for all these reasons, Fern sent Saffron Dolphin to her island estate, there to study bound demons and the library (good for a three-dot Specialty in (Lore) Demonology).
Saffron Dolphin exalted when the Diamond Resolve was boarded by the Wyld Hunt. At first, Amber managed to convince the captain that they were scavenger lords, and so prevented an outright conflict. However, chaos broke out below decks when the three blood apes on the Resolve's crew detected a concoction of demon's blood on the other vessel and went berserk.
The crew of the other ship immediately recognized Largo as anathema, and at a second glance recognized Adamant Fern as well. Saffron Dolphin, however, stepped forward to control the Blood Apes, and, after having her hide saved by Dax, received the blessing of the Elemental Dragon of Air.
Seeing the Dragons choose one in the act of aiding the Solars, the Hunt party stopped to reevaluate the situation. The leader, Tepet Ranoa, decided to hear the party's story, and afterward was convinced that there was at least enough going on that he was unaware of that he should not kill these particular anathema. This was bolstered by the party telling him that they had slain the chimera he had been sent to dispatch... after all, he should encourage infighting. With further discussion from Amber he even began to question the exact integrity of the Immaculate Faith, though he's still a long ways from becoming a follower.
Before the two ships pulled apart, Ranoa offered Dolphin the chance for adoption by the Realm. She turned to Fern for advice; her mentor offered all the information she had about outcaste adoption, but told Dolphin to decide for herself. Adoption would change the young Terrestrial's life completely. In the end, Dolphin accepted Ranoa's offer; the party gave her one of the Prayer Transceiver Modules, and she sailed off with the Hunt.
